Alubia de La Bañeza-León is a PGI covering dried seeds of four local varieties of Phaseolus vulgaris L. — Canela, Plancheta, Pinta and Riñón menudo — grown in a defined area of the Province of León, Spain. The designation requires seeds to meet the 'Extra' commercial category and to be packed and labelled under the control of the Consejo Regulador.

Registered as a PGI under file number PGI-ES-0492, with EU protection granted on 6 September 2005, Alubia de La Bañeza-León covers the dried and separated seeds of the garden bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L., subspecies Papilionaceae) in four local varieties: Canela, Plancheta, Pinta and Riñón menudo. The agricultural production area covers 98 municipalities in the agricultural districts of Astorga, El Páramo, Esla-Campos, La Bañeza, La Cabrera and Tierras de León in the Province of León, and 20 municipalities in the District of Benavente-Los Valles. The total production area extends to 5 456 square kilometres. Sowing is carried out in spring at a maximum density of 190 000 plants per hectare, and harvest takes place in August, September or October once physiological maturity is reached. Beans rotate with other crops every two years as a maximum. Seeds must be free of halo blight and treated against dried bean beetle under the control of the Regulatory Board. The dried product must fall within the 'Extra' commercial category as defined by the Orden de 16 de noviembre de 1983. Physico-chemical requirements include absorption of distilled water at a temperature of between 10 and 15 °C over ten hours of more than 100 %. Commercial labels must bear the words 'Indicación Geográfica Protegida Alubia de La Bañeza-León' together with the logo of the Regulatory Board, and each pack must carry a secondary label bearing an alphanumeric code issued by the Consejo Regulador de la Indicación Geográfica Protegida 'Alubia de La Bañeza-León'.
