Agneau de Lozère
Agneau de Lozère is fresh lamb produced exclusively from Blanche du Massif Central breeding stock, born, raised, and slaughtered within a defined area centred on the Lozère department. Lambs suckle until natural weaning, are never fed formula milk, and are slaughtered at not more than 130 days of age. Carcase weight must fall between 7 and 19 kg.

The designation covers fresh meat of class 1.1. Certification is carried out by Qualisud, an inspection body approved under EN 45011, based in Mont-de-Marsan. The geographical area comprises 259 municipalities across four departments: the whole of the Département de la Lozère (185 municipalities), 33 municipalities in the Département du Cantal, 11 in the Département de l'Ardèche, and 30 in the Département de la Haute Loire. Cantons must be situated above 800 metres, or at an altitude varying between 600 and 800 metres, and must have more than 20% unproductive permanent grassland. Only lambs born of Blanche du Massif Central ewes and rams of the same breed are eligible. Lambs suckle until naturally weaned and are never separated from their mothers before removal for slaughter; formula milk is prohibited. A feed supplement comprising at least 50% cereals and cereal by-products may be given at the end of the rearing period, but may constitute no more than 31% of the total ration. Stocking intensity must remain below 1.4 livestock units per hectare. All fodder must be harvested within the PGI area, except dried alfalfa, which may not exceed 10% of fodder consumed. Eligible animals carry a special eartag referring to the PGI; animals excluded from the procedure are marked with a red cross on their back. Labelling must carry the PGI logo or the words Indication Géographique Protégée.
