Pomme de terre de l'île de Ré is a fresh early potato produced on the île de Ré, Charente-Maritime, France, registered as a PDO under file number PDO-FR-0065 (EU protection granted 11 August 1999). The designation covers eight permitted varieties, all under 70 mm in size, harvested before full maturity and sold no later than 31 July of the harvest year. Packaging must take place within the defined geographical area.
Tasting notes
Charente-Maritime island potato AOP from Île de Ré, multiple early varieties (Alcmaria, Starlette, Charlotte). Distinctive small-medium new-season potato with thin skin, creamy yellow flesh, slightly salty sea-influenced flavor (terroir effect from coastal sandy soil).
HoReCa use
The specification describes the product as a fresh vegetable that must be marketed quickly after lifting and is not suitable for long-term storage.
