About this designation
Registered as a PDO on 21 June 1996 under file number PDO-GR-0400 (eAmbrosia identifier EUGI00000013169), Kranidi Argolidas designates an extra virgin olive oil produced exclusively from the Manaki and Koroneiki olive varieties grown and processed within a precisely delimited area of the Ermionida district, Argolida. The geographical area comprises the administrative boundaries of the Communes of Ermioni, Thermisia, Iliokastro, Didimo, Fourna, Riladas and Portokheli, and the Municipality of Kranidi. The specification requires that the olive fly disease dakos be managed by baited sprays applied from the ground, by biological methods, or left untreated; no other treatment approaches are permitted under this condition. Processing must take place within the same geographical area and consists of crushing pure olives using traditional or centrifugal olive presses. The specification states that both growing and processing must remain within the delimited area, establishing a direct link between the product and its place of origin. Inspection is carried out by the Prefecture of Argolida Farming Directorate, located in Navplio. Authenticated products carry the label designation PDO "KRANIDI ARGOLIDAS" Olive oil together with an inspection code composed of the prefix KR, a label serial number, and the last two digits of the year of production.
