The applicant body is the Consorzio di tutela dell'olio extravergine di oliva Laghi lombardi DOP. The specification permits two supplementary geographical indications: Laghi Lombardi Sebino, corresponding to the Lake Iseo area, and Laghi Lombardi Lario, corresponding to the Lake Como area. The principal olive varieties are Frantoio and Pendolino, with Leccino and Casaliva also present; locally distinctive varieties include Gaggiolo on Lake Como and Bresa on Lake Iseo. Olives must be harvested directly from the tree, by hand or by mechanical means, no later than 15 January of each year. Lombard EVOO from Lake Iseo and Lake Como areas, predominantly Casaliva and other northern cultivars. Light-medium fruity intensity, very delicate balanced flavor, soft notes of fresh almond and green herbs — among Italy's most delicate styles.
