Mela di Valtellina

Mela di Valtellina is a protected geographical indication covering fresh apples grown in the Valtellina valley, Sondrio, Italy, registered as a PGI on 28 November 2006 under file number PGI-IT-0574. The designation covers three varieties — Red Delicious, Golden Delicious, and Gala — each subject to minimum diameter and sugar-content requirements set out in the product specification.

Tasting notes

Lombard apple from Valtellina valley, multiple varieties similar to Alto Adige. Crisp texture, balanced sweet-acid, bright flavor.

HoReCa use

Fresh fruit, in Valtellinese desserts, paired with Bitto and Casera cheeses, juice production.
