Melone Mantovano
Also known as: Melone di Mantova
Melone Mantovano is a fresh melon registered as a PGI on 13 July 2011 under file number PGI-IT-0883. It covers two botanical varieties of Cucumis melo L. — cantalupensis and reticulatus — grown in Mantova province and specified neighbouring municipalities in the provinces of Modena, Bologna, Ferrara and Cremona. Both types must meet a minimum sugar content of 12 °Brix and minimum flesh thickness of 24 mm.
Tasting notes
Mantovano melon (Cucumis melo varieties — Charentais, Honeydew, Cantaloupe styles). Bright orange or pale green flesh, fragrant sweet flavor, balanced moisture.
