Ananás dos Açores

Ananás dos Açores is a PDO-protected fresh pineapple registered under file number PDO-PT-0269, granted EU protection on 21 June 1996 (eAmbrosia identifier EUGI00000013104). The designation covers fruit of the species Ananas comosus L., variety Cayene folhas lisas, grown exclusively on the island of São Miguel in the Azores archipelago under greenhouse conditions. Certification is overseen by the Comissão Técnica de Controlo e Certificação.

Tasting notes

Açorean greenhouse-grown pineapple DOP from São Miguel island. Distinctive smaller-than-Caribbean pineapple, distinctively sweet flavor with low acidity, tender flesh — uniquely greenhouse-cultivated tropical fruit in EU.

HoReCa use

Premium dessert fruit; in Açorean sobremesa; gift item; in cocktails (Caipirinha-style with cachaça).
