Maçã Bravo de Esmolfe is a fresh apple cultivated from the variety Malus domestica and produced in the Beira Alta region of Portugal. Registered as a PDO on 21 June 1996 under file number PDO-PT-0247 (eAmbrosia identifier EUGI00000013083), the designation is held by FENAFRUTAS. The inspection structure is FELBA - Centro de Valorização das Frutas e Legumes da Beira Alta, based in Viseu.
Tasting notes
Beira apple DOP from Esmolfe area, distinctive native variety. Small to medium fruit, distinctive russeted golden skin, very firm crisp flesh, intensely aromatic with characteristic pear-rose-apple profile — among Portugal's most prized apples.
HoReCa use
Premium dessert apple; in maçã assada com vinho do Porto; on cheese boards.
