Pêra Rocha do Oeste is a fresh pear of the Rocha variety, belonging to the species Pyrus communis L., produced in the Oeste region of Portugal. Registered as a PDO on 27 April 2002 under file number PDO-PT-0160 (eAmbrosia: EUGI00000013606), the designation covers fruit grown and prepared in a defined area of communes. Labels must carry the words 'PÊRA ROCHA DO OESTE — DENOMINAÇÃO DE ORIGEM' and a duly numbered certification mark.
Tasting notes
Estremaduran pear DOP from Oeste region (Cadaval-Bombarral-Caldas). Distinctive Rocha variety — pale yellow-green with russeted patches, crisp tender flesh, balanced sweet-tart flavor — Portugal's most exported pear.
HoReCa use
Premium dessert pear; in poached-pear desserts; with Portuguese cheese course.
